This page contains information on self catering in Enniscorthy. Enniscorthy is built into a steep hill that drops down sharply to the Slaney river, which is spanned at this point by a six arched bridge. The town is the centre of lovely country, with mountains, woodland, river and pastoral aspects. The castle, a Norman edifice, has been altered during the centuries, and when the ravages inflicted by the Tudor wars had been repaired, the place was handed over to the Elizabethan poet, Spencer, as a residence. It was captured by the insurgents in 1798, after a particularly bloody battle. To mark this, the '98 Memorial was put up in the Market Square, and is a fine represenation in bronze of Father Murphy and a pikeman, by Oliver Sheppard. It bears the simple inscription "1798"Search the database for self catering in Enniscorthy. |
